MSH - Heartsaver

The Heartsaver First Aid course trains participants first aid basics for the most common first aid emergencies, including how to recognize them, how to call for help, and how to perform lifesaving skills. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) and the 2015 AHA/Red Cross Guidelines for First Aid.

Who should take this course?

The AHA Heartsaver First Aid Course is designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

You must show your current BLS card on arrival. If you are expired, you must take the full BLS course.

The AHA's BLS Course provides the foundation for saving lives in the event of a cardiac arrest. It teaches single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for use in prehospital and in-facility settings, with an emphasis on high-quality CPR and team dynamics.

You will be required to pay the class fee to reserve a seat.  The fee for nurses is $10 and non-nursing staff is $70.

AHA clases are limited to the Department of Nursing.

The PALS Course is designed to teach you the lifesaving skills required to be both a team member and a Team Leader in either an in-hospital or an out-of-hospital setting. Because the PALS Course covers extensive material in a short time, you will need to prepare for the course beforehand.

Be prepared to pass the Child CPR and AED Skills Testing Checklist and Infant CPR Skills Testing Checklist. You will not be taught how to do CPR or how to use an AED during the course. The resuscitation scenarios require that your BLS skills and knowledge are current. Review and understand all 2020 BLS guidelines, especially as they relate to pediatric patients.
 
You will be required to pay the class fee to reserve a seat.  The fee for nurses is $10 and non-nursing staff is $250.

The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider Course (ACLS) provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest. Providers are expected to learn to manage 10 core ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency, four types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA and asystole), four types of pre-arrest emergencies (bradycardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes) and stroke.

You will be required to pay the class fee to reserve a seat.  The fee for nurses is $10 and non-nursing staff is $160.

This is NOT a review class. It is a ‘challenge’ class – participants must arrive prepared to successfully complete all written and skills testing. All necessary review, preparation and studying must be completed beforehand. (If you would like to do a classroom-based PALS review, please register for the Initial Course.)
